About the Show
The premise of this show is how memory impacts perception. More specifically, how memory of place shapes an artist's personal biography and influences their work. For every artist, a past or present sense of “home” is a site of personal historical significance. It plays a role in forming our sensibilities, our sense of self, and our individual narratives. Place memories, through their influence on identity and perception, play a powerful and complex role in an artist's studio practice. They contribute to distinctions between the work of one artist versus that of another due to the uniqueness of each, but they also connect us, in that reverberations of "home" and the lived experience of being "from" a given place are universal.
