Vintage Baseball

Having grown up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Séan Alonzo Harris is a diehard Boston Red Sox fan. Baseball was his first love; photography his second.

This series is comprised of photographs of Maine’s vintage baseball league. The league plays by 19th-century rules in old-style uniforms with vintage equipment.

Because baseball is largely played from the waist-down, Harris captured many of the images from low angles, taking photographs from his knees or while lying on the ground. To further capture the vintage nature of the play, the photographic treatment is soft and grainy.

“They play some serious ball,” Harris says. “It makes you want to jump in. I always want to play. I want to play right now.”
