About the Show
Color is a power which directly influences the soul. — Wassily Kandinsky
After a hectic holiday season, the new year feels like a huge, cleansing exhale. But, as the month progresses and the reality of short days and long winter settles in, it takes a bit of effort to defy a similar bleakening of our mental landscapes. That effect is, perhaps, compounded by the incessant chatter from our 24-hour news feed of an ominous and uncertain future.
This group exhibition, with its mood boosting jolt of color, is offered as an anecdote to the mundane blahs of winter. And, in keeping with Kandinsky's words above, this burst of color pits the positive energy of joy against the literal and metaphorical darkening of the times.
