Curated by Bruce Brown

About the Show
When the past no longer illuminates the future, the spirit walks in darkness. - Alexis de Tocqueville
Our city is vibrant and evolving, and the resulting change is perhaps no more evident than on Munjoy Hill and the Portland waterfront. Curated by Bruce Brown, this exhibition explores the past of those areas through the photography of Mark Rockwood and Jeffery Stevensen dating back to the 1970s and '80s. While many of the images initially feel very different from our present, one begins to notice certain familiar buildings, and, more importantly, one begins to feel a familiar connection with the people in the photographs. Although peering into decades past, there is a recognizable sense of place and spirit, which is unmistakable.
