January Thaw (Phippsburg), pastel on paper

Pastel on paper, done on site, has been primary to the making and seeing over the last 35 yrs. Pencil, conte, and charcoal are also often found in these sketches. In the studio the pastels serve as a point of departure and tend to be more literal...color, form. allowing the paintings to be less so.
