I prefer to play. Playing leads to discovery... Discovery of mediums and techniques but also discovery of parts of myself that I have kept secret from myself. As I push the mediums around and begin to create, a light illuminates in a dark room tucked far away. The light casts onto what I’m making and dreaded meaning steps forward. What was just play is now a physical representation of my inner psyche donning a devilish grin. Maybe play isn’t fun after all. Or maybe play can be a distraction from the very real things surrounding me and the very real things inside me. Maybe instead of dwelling on these thoughts, I will go make something fanciful. Let me build my escape and start again and again.

I’m an artist self-taught by trial and terror. Straight lines and clean shapes are my safe place but can get dull now and then. In the past, I painted primarily with oils. More recently, I have begun experimenting with embroidery, polymer clay, and cold wax. I love the nostalgia of embroidery, the freedom of polymer clay, and versatility of cold wax. The designs I create are painstakingly prearranged but the textural embellishments emerge more organically throughout the process adding a much needed chaos to the mix.
