About the Show
Water is the soul of the Earth. ― W.H. Auden
Water, curated by Bruce Brown, features six photographers offering varied and often unexpected views of the titular substance. Water is common: it covers over 70% of our planet and comprises about 60% of our bodies. Yet, it remains an endless source of fascination and inspiration.
Still, water can act as a mirror, a medium of quiet contemplation reflecting the viewer back to herself. But water can also be roiling, destructive, seemingly angry. Its mercurial temperament can be frozen in time, solid. Or water can be ethereal, trapped in the air, romantic if foreboding.
The photographers in this exhibition wonderfully capture these characteristics. Water is a basic necessity, yet it is sublime, making it a fantastic subject matter that these artists deftly explore.
