Next Gen
February 1 - March 16, 2024
Opening Reception: Thurs., February 1, 5 - 7pm
About the Show
The creation of a world view is the work of a generation rather than of an individual, but we each of us, for better or for worse, add our brick to the edifice. – John Dos Passos
Maine has a storied and out-sized place in American Art History, and it continues to play a vibrant and impactful role in shaping contemporary art. This fact is evident in the number of talented, young artists working in our state.
Next Gen features compelling work by nineteen of Maine’s emerging wave of makers. Combined, their work does not present a single, coherent perspective as to where Maine contemporary art is headed but instead demonstrates the rich tapestry that Maine contemporary art is and will continue to be. This next generation is carrying on Maine’s storied tradition while shaping the next chapter with their own unique and exciting voices.
