About The Show

O Earth, that hast no voice, confide to me a voice!
O harvest of my lands! O boundless Summer growths!
O lavish, brown, parturient earth! O infinite, teeming womb
O theatre of time, and day, and night!
A verse, to seek to see, to narrate thee.
- Walt Whitman, A Carol of Harvest

Harvest season - the culmination of labors sewn since Spring; the time when earth speaks in bounty or scarcity. From the Thesmophoria, a women-only festival of ancient Greece dedicated to the goddess of grain, to our more familiar Thanksgiving, cultures throughout the world and history have ritualized the harvest, embedding the season in folklore, religion, and myth. This is certainly true in Maine despite a short growing season. From Bangor's Maine Harvest Festival to Damariscotta's Pumpkinfest, the harvest is celebrated throughout our State. Curated by Bruce Brown, Harvest Season captures this special time of year through the work of a dozen Maine photographers.
