Spotlight: Tom Hall

About the Show
Perhaps even more than the beauty, Tom Hall captures the spirit of the Maine landscape, rugged, dramatic, but not untouched by human hands. Our exhibition is highlighted by Hall’s massive, brilliant Brownfield Bog Triptych and includes work from iconic Maine locations, such as Monhegan Island.
In the footsteps of many other well-known artists, Hall has repeatedly made the artistic pilgrimage to Monhegan. “A number of autumns in a row I rented a cottage on Horn Hill. It had a wonderful porch with a view back toward Monhegan village. Those four Septembers I hiked every bit of the island. Met the ghosts … Kent, Bellows, Hopper, Wyeth. Did hundreds of pastel sketches, wore myself out, and always returned home a better painter.”
