Henry Austin
Henry Austin is a visual artist living and working in Portland, ME. Born and raised in Lander, Wyoming, at the foot of the Wind River mountains, he forever fell in love with the red dirt and the juniper trees behind his house. In 2012, he moved to Maine to attend Bowdoin College and graduated with a BA in Visual Arts in 2016. For the past three years, Austin has been enthralled with the fake flowers that bloom from the cracks of his well- lit, windowless studio within the confines of an old industrial laundromat. There, he spends his time making photographs and mixed-media pieces that attest to the hearty beauty of fake flowers. Alongside this work, he makes paintings that probe and emulate the emotional profile of his dreams. In the spring of 2018, Austin founded, and now co- directs, New System Exhibitions - an alternative project space and exhibition venue for emerging, local, and regional artists.
