Within this body of work, I am presenting two types of sculptures. One is repetitive and the other meant to be read like a book.
The creating of redundant surfaces is meditative and healing; like the retelling of a traumatic event over and over until the emotion dissipates. I am bringing my intangible feelings to the surface of the sculptures to be witnessed. This encounter is meant to be a visceral experience, one that mimics the emotional situation that prompted its creation.
The story-oriented sculptures, created with toys and other found objects, are usually a less intense, long view analysis of our perceptions. The intention is to create an experience as if one were conversing with a child, with joyful creativity, free from the confines of reality. I invite the viewer to see with fresh, young eyes and tell themselves stories the way children do.
